The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences has a academic grievance procedure.

As often as possible students should always try to resolve conflicts with the individual(s) involved.  In the absence of resolution, we remind you that the following individuals affiliated with the Biomedical Sciences (BIMS) represent a hierarchy individuals who have a strong interest in your education, satisfaction and safety at the University of Virginia:

  • Mentor
  • Director of Graduate Studies (department/degree)
  • Assistant Dean for Graduate Research and Training
  • Associate Dean for Graduate Education

These individuals have a wealth of collective experience and access to university resources with information on topics ranging from authorship for publications to discriminatory harassment or Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).  Additionally, they have a number of other resources to which they can refer students, including members of various oversight committees and other university administrators.
